Science
There are clearly defined units of work to be covered in the National Curriculum from Year 1 up to Year 6. These cover aspects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, plus there is a focus on learning to work scientifically.
We use our outdoor learning areas to good effect (eg going on a mini-beast hunt or pond-dipping) and give the pupils as many opportunities as possible to conduct their own investigations.
In Early Years, learning is focused on exploring the world around us and ourselves, and this lays excellent foundations for the Science curriculum in Year 1.
As with the entire curriculum, we teach the children how to use correct terminology and how to explain their ideas clearly.
