Sports Premium
The Sports Premium is given to schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Below is an outline of the way that we intend to spend our Sports Premium funding during the 2021/22 academic year. The spending of our Sports Premium funding links to the objectives of our PE Development Plan.
Our provision is planned with the following key indicators in mind:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity;
- The profile of PE and Sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement;
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff to teach PE/Sport;
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils;
- Increased participation in competitive sport.
Supporting the Quality of Teaching
We employ a specialist PE teacher to work alongside our teachers in lessons and provide them with the skills and knowledge to teach PE. The sports coach also delivers an afterschool club which every class will have an opportunity to attend. Teachers will also have the opportunity to attend CPD by external providers as appropriate.
Halton School Games
This year Halton School Games will be supporting PE and Sport at Hallwood Park by broadening sporting opportunities and experiences and providing CPD to staff.
Additional Swimming lessons
Part of our Sport Premium funding will be used to provide additional swimming lessons to children who lack confidence in water. The National Curriculum states that all children should be able to swim a distance of 25m unaided by the end of Key Stage 2. All non-swimmers in year 6 will attend extra swimming lessons during the summer term.
Participation in competitions and events
We aim to increase pupils’ participation in competitions and events. The allocated money will cover the cost of transporting children to local venues, as well as providing opportunities to take part in a wider range of sporting activities with other schools. Some funding will support inter-class/house competitions within school.
Promoting Physical Activity
In order to promote physical activity during the school day, some sports equipment will be purchased for use at playtime and lunchtime. Some new PE equipment will extend the range of sporting activity on offer to pupils, to encourage more children to take part with enthusiasm.
Sustainability
The same coach works closely with the staff and children throughout the year. This helps to ensure that continuity and progression are built into the planning and delivery of PE lessons. PE lessons and clubs are timetabled to ensure that sufficient time is allocated for physical activity, plus a number of staff lead the after-school clubs. We are fortunate to have large school grounds so a range of sports can take place and links with secondary schools are pursued as actively as possible.
