Welcome to the Year 5 class page. Here, you will be able to see what we've been learning in school and share our adventures.
In History lessons, our Spring term will begin with the Vikings - Who were the Vikings? Where did they come from? Why did they invade? What made the Vikings successful?
Towards the end of the term, we will be learning about mountains and rivers in Geography.
Our first Science topic of the Spring term is 'Materials and their Properties'. We will group, classify and investigate materials according to their properties.
Our P.E. sessions will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Our first focus of the term is 'Gymnastics'.
We recommend that children bring their P.E. kit into school on a Monday, and leave in school until Friday.
Homework and new reading books are given out each Friday afternoon.
Homework needs to be returned on Tuesdays.
Spellings are given out each Monday and are tested on the following Monday.
Books need to be returned in folder (with signed homework diary) when completed.
In Year 5, children should be reading every day. A child reading the higher stage Oxford Reading Tree books could read a chapter each day and would then be changing their book fortnightly.
