Class Teacher: Mr Smith Classroom Assistants: Mrs Bignall and Mrs Webster
Welcome to our class webpage. We have a very exciting year planned for the children in Ravens class which includes exciting physical education lessons, learning to play the recorder and computing lessons involving creating animations using iPads and notebooks. We will also have a cross-curricular termly topic in which the children will learn about our history and the geographical features of our planet.
This term our topic is based on the ancient Greeks. Within this topic we will examine the impact the ancient Greek civilization has on life today, examine the location of Greece in comparison to its European neighbours and explore what life was like during ancient Greek times.
In science we will be investigating the digestive system in humans and animals and the functions of teeth. Children will learn more about herbivores, carnivores
and omnivores in the context of teeth, digestion and the food chain.
P.E kits must be in on Monday morning ready for Year 3 P.E. on a Monday afternoon. It is important that it is left in school in case the children have an opportunity to do P.E. at any other time in the week. Children will bring their P.E. kits home on the final day of term unless specifically requested for cleaning. As the weather can be rather inclement during the autumn term, children will be able to bring to school a tracksuit (for outdoor activities) as well as their standard P.E. kit but this will mean they will also require suitable footwear.
Homework is handed out to the children on a Friday and is expected back at school on a Tuesday morning. Homework is an important part of the learning process and reinforces children’s learning for that week; therefore it is compulsory for all children and needs to be completed on time. Most weeks children will be given maths, English, handwriting, spelling, and reading homework. Children will take a spelling test every Friday and you will be given regular feedback regarding their results. If your child is finding the homework difficult then please tell a member of staff who will help them with their understanding. Reading books will be changed twice a week on a Tuesday and Friday but only if a child's homework diary is signed by a parent.
We are always happy to discuss your child with you, so please come and speak to us if you have any concerns or would like any ideas for supporting your child's education at home.
