Eagles - Year 1

Hello and welcome to Year 1!

My name is Mrs Hatton and I'm so excited to be your teacher this year! I hope you have all had a fantastic summer holiday with your family and I'm sure you're now very eager to be returning to school again with your friends. We've most definitely got a busy year ahead of us but don't worry...we're going to have so much fun together whilst learning!

This half term, our topic is going to be 'Penguins and Poles.' We're going to be reading a wonderful book called Lost and Found and completing lots of exciting writing activities linked to the story during our English lessons. In Maths, we will be doing lots of counting (forwards and backwards), reading and writing numbers, identifying more and less, using mathematical vocabulary to compare groups and ordering numbers (just to name a few!) In Science, we will be looking at the habitats of different animals and in Geography we will identify the continents and oceans as well as investigating the features of cold places. We will make 3D models of polar creatures using clay in Art and we will be designing and making boats in Design Technology. In PE, we are going to be doing gymnastics (yay!) and in RE we will be learning all about the teachings of Jesus. We will also be making use of our lovely outdoor areas as much as possible. In Computing, we will be focusing upon e-safety and discussing how important it is to keep ourselves safe online.

General Information:

  • PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure that you have your PE kit in school and that it is clearly labelled.
  • Book bags will be sent home every night and should be returned daily. Books will be changed twice a week. Please leave a comment in the Reading Diary so that we know how your child managed with the book.
  • Homework and spellings will be sent home every Friday. Homework should be returned to school by Tuesday and children will have a spelling test on Wednesday. You will be notified of the spelling test results every Friday.
