We aim to develop children’s confidence for writing from the earliest age. We use the “Big Writing” approach that focuses on “talk for writing” strategies, which can be summarised as:
“If they can’t say it, they can’t write it.”
Children are taught about different genres, spelling, punctuation and grammar. They are given opportunities to write across the curriculum and on a Friday, the children in Year 1 upwards do an extended piece of writing – our “Big Writing” session.
Talk homework may be given in the days before a Big Writing lesson, to help your child to gather ideas for their writing. We hope that you will find the topics interesting to talk about!
