There are clearly defined units of work to be covered in the National Curriculum from Year 1 up to Year 6. These cover aspects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, plus there is a focus on learning to work scientifically. We use our outdoor learning areas to good effect (eg going on a mini-beast hunt or pond-dipping) and give the pupils as many opportunities as possible to conduct their own investigations. In Early Years, learning is focused on exploring the world around us and ourselves, and this lays excellent foundations for the Science curriculum in Year 1. As with the entire curriculum, we teach the children how to use correct terminology and how to explain their ideas clearly.
Space Week 6th -10th November
Our school has been chosen to take part in an exciting project run by Daresbury Science Park. The theme of the project is Space. During the week, some of our children will have the opportunity to visit the Catalyst Museum in Widnes, go in a portable planetarium, handle lunar rocks on loan from NASA and design their own solar system. The whole school will be involved and experience some of the workshops on offer. This will be a really exciting week which will hopefully inspire some of our pupils to become the scientists of the future!
