Welcome to the Year 5 class page. Here, you will be able to see what we've been learning in school and share our adventures.
The new year begins with our new topic - Earth Matters. We will be exploring the structure of the Earth, discovering how mountains are formed and following the journey of a river.
Our third science topic is Properties of Materials. Children will classify and group everyday materials based on their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity and response to magnets. They will plan and conduct fair tests in order to answer scientific questions.
We are now reading Short! by Kevin Crossley-Holland and Fablehaven by Brandon Mull.
Homework and new reading books are given out each Friday afternoon.
Homework needs to be returned on Tuesdays.
Spellings are given out each Monday and are tested on the following Monday.
Books need to be returned in folder (with signed homework diary) when completed.
In Year 5, children should be reading every day. A child reading the higher stage Oxford Reading Tree books could read a chapter each day and would then be changing their book fortnightly.
We recommend that children bring their P.E. kit in on a Monday and keep it in school until Friday.
